RE: Ranking #1 on the game jam (+ bonus doodles, behind the scenes, and the project's future)
I apologize in advance for any grammatical errors, English is not my first language.
Everyone, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I definitely didn't expect the game to be so well received, nor could I ever anticipate my game to get a good score. After all, it is unfinished, and I lack experience on using RMMV (seriously, I had 80 dollars and a dream, since I brought the engine 1 month before the jam started...)
The production of this game is made with searching YouTube tutorials, asking stupid questions on Discord, and Googling oddly specific functions, hoping someone already made a free plugin for it, all while juggling schoolwork. It was stressful, but the result is more than worth it!

BEHIND THE SCENES
This is a speedpaint of the dock map for Polar Day, it's the first thing I drew after the sprites and what defined the game's art style. I was looking for something quick to draw yet eye-catching, so I decided on adding pixelized textures. Fun fact, it wasn't intentional at first, I was messing with texture overlays and I accidentally pixelized it, but it ends up looking REALLY good.
Sketches I've made when designing Meng and Captain's talk sprites. I drew these at school.
Sketches for the logo and the text window. Meng's tablet thingy was always meant to be the text window, in my brain it's documenting everything they say... Meng has a habit of that (for science). It would creep Captain out if she knows, thankfully she does not (yet).
Sketches for gameplay mechanics. I didn't get to finish the camera in time, which is why it's broken in the game. Maybe I'll actually code it when I finish the game...
FUTURE?
I know what you're thinking.
"REDD, WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO FINISH THE GAME???"
And for my irls, "MAKE A CHINESE TRANSLATION FOR THE LOVE OF GOD." (ๅฆๆไฝ ๅๆๅจ็็่ฉฑๅจๅไฝ)
In that case I say "lalallalallaaaa I can't hear you!"
Okay, jokes aside, I'll absolutely make a finished version now. You guys LOVE it, and I love drawing gross fish, what can I say! It's probably not in the VERY near future, however, it will be my first priority once I graduated high school.
Oh, and one more thing. I don't know how it works in other countries, but in Taiwan, international competitions are very high regarded in terms of college applications. This is technically an international competition, and I ranked #1, so... You guys might be my ticket to a really great university!! I'm not sure if it'll actually count, though hey, doesn't hurt to try! This'll look awesome on my portfolio regardless!
TRIVIA
Meng likes sashimi. Captain can't stand the texture however, she needs it COOKED.
Meng is 30 years old. Captain is a little younger.
Captain thinks Meng's eyes are scary and I intentionally draw them as soulless looking as possible. They're supposed to resemble fish eyes!
Meng is nonbinary and uses they/she pronouns. Please put me on the woke game list
Between Meng and Captain Meng is more likely to die in a zombie apocalypse purely because they think they could just thug it out while they get reaaaaaally close to the zombies to get samples for scientific research (they in fact did not thug it out and got mauled to death by the zombies)
๏ฝ๐ ๐ ๐๏ฝ
That's all I have to say! Again, THANK YOU for enjoying my game!!! Here's to many, many games to come...
